897 A.D – in the Highlands of Scotland.

Thyra of Asger, wild, tough, and beautiful, has just turned twenty-one. Raised like one of the boys by her older brother Bjarke, she has become a strong and proud Viking warrior. Now, all she wants to do is live a life of adventure and travel.

When the moody and violent Bjarke fails to take her seriously, Thyra finds someone else who does. Kari Sturlusson, of the Volsung clan, is older, wiser, and commander-in-chief of her people. Over the course of a magical summer, she becomes Thyra’s mentor, her teacher, and her lover.

But the Asger and the Volsung share a bitter and cruel history. Winter will bring with it blood, destruction, and devastating heartache. The end of a cycle, and the beginning of a journey; transformation, and a startling choice to make.

In the end, will Thyra’s promise hold true?

I was lucky enough to get a chance to ask Natalie a couple of questions about her upcoming release!

Why did you want to write this book, specifically?
This book was brewing in me for a long time, but I wasn’t immediately ready to write it… It felt kinda too big and too much of a challenge! It took writing all my other books to get me to the point where I believed I could really do it justice; and to Thyra herself! This is the longest book I’ve written so far and my favourite character to date.

What do you like best about it?
I love that it is such an epic adventure story and the character really does go through awesome change and development: a real hero’s journey!

Can you tell the readers something about Thyra’s Promise that they might not know just from reading the book?
Out of all the books I’ve written, this one has been the most ‘unconscious’ for me, as if the character herself was sitting next to me telling me her story every step of the way! I never knew what was going to happen two pages down the line as I wrote it. A weird synchronicity took place too: at one point my character finds herself travelling through a mountain blizzard… And two days later I found myself in one on my morning run! Writing this book was intense: I was out of breath by the time I finished writing Part One, and that was only the beginning! I hope people enjoy reading this one as much as I enjoyed writing it!

In ten words or less, tell us why we should buy this book?
It will blow your mind!

Natalie Debrabandere

Crafting stories and creating characters out of thin air is Natalie’s number one passion in life. As far back as she can remember, she always wanted to be a writer… When she was 11 years-old, she started a little newspaper with her younger sister and named herself ‘Editor-in-Chief’! Not long after this, Natalie started to re-write the ending of books she had read according to what she wanted to happen or write little scenes based on existing characters she liked. Eventually, she started to get frustrated sometimes when she could not find books that told exactly the story she wanted to read with exactly the sort of characters she wanted to read about… This is really what led her to start writing her own stories. When she is not writing, Natalie works as an NLP Coach and Trainer on various self-development initiatives in the UK which aim to improve emotional resilience and well-being in people. She also enjoys dodging the British rain on her morning runs and spending long lazy hours creating the perfect home-made lasagna.
