Former U.S. Army pilot Lauren Henley and police training instructor Kim “Monty” Montgomery share a love of country, a sense of duty, and grief for a woman who left them too soon. That the woman they lost was a friend to one and a lover to the other should at least give Kim and Lauren something on which to build a friendship. But from the moment they met, they’ve been at odds.

When Lauren gets a job at the same police department as Kim, they are forced to at least fake professional respect. Eventually, respect and begrudging attraction turns to affection, then something deeper.

Erin was kind enough to answer a couple of questions about her recent release!

Why did you want to write this book, specifically?
The inspiration to write this book came while I was at work one day. When I heard an officer use the call sign for the helicopter and a female pilot answered up. The seed was planted. I got a chance to meet and interview that pilot, and several others, while writing the book. The story of these two women, is my way of respecting their dedication to their community.

What do you like best about it?
While the story itself has some serious elements about issues faced by veterans and law enforcement every day. The personal connection between Lauren and Kim remains with me the most. Despite a complicated past, they have a chemistry between them that’s undeniable.

Can you tell the readers something about Landing Zone that they might not know just from reading the book?
My first helicopter ride ever was in a police helicopter. It was only a couple of years into my career as an emergency dispatcher. One of the patrol officers I worked with moved over the aviation unit. He took me up for a ride. The sensation of flying over my city stuck with me all of those years and was prevalent in my mind while I wrote this book.

In ten words or less, tell us why we should buy this book?
It’s a strong romance against the backdrop of lesser depicted aspects of law enforcement–aviation and training.
