Can she trust her?
Cyphers are assigned a number, a place to live and to work in exchange for giving up rights and freedoms most take for granted. Ami Moore finds herself trapped in what was sold to her as a temporary solution, and her situation gets worse when she is framed and accused of stealing.
Ami can’t be sure whether Inspector Katlena Cervantes will be her ally or enemy–but the two women’s fates are tied together from the day they first meet.

I had the good fortune to ask Barbara a couple of questions about her new release!
Why did you want to write this book, specifically?
I was reading a lot of dystopian literature, and I wanted to see if I could do it (since the majority of my books are contemporary). However, I was dealing with grief at the same time, and stopped shortly before finishing it. When I went back to it a couple of years later, I found that it still made sense. Aside from the action and love story, a tiny bit of personal experience went into it – going through a phase of unemployment. It’s something that happened to many in my generation, quite a few friends, graduating with high hopes (and grades) and being confronted with the dire reality that it doesn’t have to mean anything. So yes, this is pretty dark even for me.
What do you like best about it?
Love, knowledge, understanding – all the right things win in the end.
Can you tell the readers something about Cypher that they might not know just from reading the book?
I never really base characters on real people, but I did it in this story, with the lady from OA, Organizational Affairs. That was many years ago, though, so there’s no danger they’d find out…
In ten words or less, tell us why we should buy this book?
Fast pace, action, a love story between two strong-willed women…
