MAY DAWNEY
AUTHOR, PUBLISHER & BOOK COVER DESIGNER
Creator of Survival Instincts, The Veil Chronicles
& The Kincaid Chronicles.
Author of Speculative Fiction
When I was a child, my father read Asimov and Zelazny to me. As a teenager, I gravitated toward the likes of China Mieville, Charles Stross, and Tad Williams because they wrote jaw-dropping, gear-turning science fiction, (future) fantasy, dystopian, and occult novels, even though there was never a character I, as a queer woman, could fully identify with.
My motivation to write comes from the desire to create stories where women turn to women once they stop the apocalypse—be it a global or a personal one. I want to write the stories I wished my father could have read to me as a child: riveting tales with heroines who kick ass and just so happen to be gay.

JUST ADDING STARS

“This book was a terrific read. The pacing was outstanding especially. The moments of really awful things happening and action scenes were beautifully mixed with quiet moments of character building. I actually bought this book twice–the first time as a Kindle edition, and after reading it and having it stuck in my head for several days–bought it again as a real physical book which I haven’t done in years.”

COMPLETELY IMMERSIVE

“Violent. Gritty. Graphic. These are some of the first adjectives that come to my mind when I started reading Survival Instincts. And pretty much throughout the book. But by the end, I’d add to it pulse-pounding, heart-breaking, and quite simply–effing awesome!”

“Dawney has the ability to evoke powerful imagery with just a few words. This makes for an immersive reading experience, whether she’s taking us for a walk on the cobblestone streets of Kraków, on a night flight over the Serengeti, or letting us discover the inner workings of magic.”

“Everything is so so well explained. I could follow everything perfectly. The examples are really well done and really clear. And I feel like I might actually be able to implement them. I loved it! This is a fantastic resource. I’ll probably also need a paperback copy ASAP to bookmark and carry around.”
